Meet the Staff

Burrell takes pride in the quality of the individuals we employ to serve our communities’ mental health needs. We have doctoral and master’s level staff members licensed in specialties such as psychiatry, clinical psychology, marriage and family therapy, psychiatric nursing, substance abuse counseling, individual and group counseling and clinical social work. Lisa Baeza, MD

Dr. Baeza earned her medical degree from The University of Iowa and completed her residency in psychiatry at the University of Missouri in Columbia. She is a psychiatrist at Burrell’s Outpatient Clinic in Columbia and also provides psychiatric services via Telehealth technology.

Margaret (Peggy) Brothers, ANP

Peggy Brothers, ANP, graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with her Master of Science in Nursing and is a licensed Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist. Peggy practices in the Adult Psychiatric Clinic in Columbia and also provides services via Telehealth.

Melissa Connoley, MSW, LCSW

A graduate of the George Warren Brown School of Social Work, Melissa Connoley obtained her Clinical Social Worker license in 1997 and has since acquired significant experience in her field through her work as a clinical case manager and therapist providing case management and behavioral health services through individual, group and family therapy, crisis intervention, treatment plan development, service coordination, support group facilitation and more. In addition to the above, Melissa has shared her clinical expertise with a number of community organizations through both practicum assignments and volunteerism. As part of Burrell’s Central Region staff, Melissa is available to provide services to children, adolescents, adults and senior adults.

Emily Crawford, PhD

Emily Crawford, PhD. earned her doctorate from Miami University; and completed her post-doctoral residency at Harry S. Truman VA Hospital where she specialized in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and traumatic brain injury. Emily Crawford, PhD is a licensed psychologist who currently provides a variety of individual psychological assessments and counseling with adults in Burrell’s Outpatient Clinic in Columbia.

Grace Devenport, LPC

Grace Devenport is a Licensed Professional Counselor providing behavioral health care in Burrell’s Central Region for clients ages six and up. Grace graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri where she earned a Master of Education in Counseling degree.   In addition to providing clinical assessments, treatment and discharge planning, and individual therapy, Grace also specializes in treatment through other modalities including group, family and marital therapies.  In addition to her experience with standard methods of treatment, Grace has earned certification in a variety of therapeutic approaches including Caring for People God’s Way, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Exposure Therapy.  Her background includes working with a diverse clientele including youth, adolescents and adults presenting with a variety of issues including developmental disabilities, severe and persistent mental illness, dual diagnosis and more.

Tina Drury, MD

Dr. Drury earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia. She also completed her psychiatric residency, fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Missouri, and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics. She is a Licensed Psychiatrist at Burrell’s Outpatient Clinic in Columbia.

Colin Duggan, PsyD

Colin Duggan, PsyD, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at St. Louis University, graduating  Cum Laude in 2002 and, in 2007 earned his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University/Washington, D. C. in Arlington, VA.  In addition to his research  initiatives, Dr. Duggan gained practical experience through a number of internships, practicum and residency programs during which he administered a broad variety of psychological, behavioral, and personality assessments; facilitated psycho-educational groups pertaining to anger management, social skills, grief and loss; actively participated in crisis intervention; and more.  Additionally, Dr. Duggan’s extensive resume includes his background as the Associate Director of the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons’ Health Program,  Staff Psychologist, and also Clinical Supervisor, of  Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, MO, and his current position of Regional Director of Burrell Behavioral Health’s Central Missouri Region.

Andrea Earlywine, MSN, APRN

Andrea Earlywine, APRN, earned her masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Missouri in Columbia and is a licensed Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, a Psychiatric Nurse Specialist as well as a Registered Nurse. She provides services in Burrell’s Outpatient Clinic in Columbia.

Armando Favazza, MD

Dr. Favazza graduated from the University of Virginia with his medical degree and completed his psychiatric residency at the University of Michigan. He is a board certified psychiatrist and emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri.

Jamie Gale, MSW, LCSW

Jamie Gale is a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Social Work and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  Jamie completed a master level internship with the Child Advocacy Center’s Rainbow House where she co-facilitated parenting classes and caregiver support groups and also provided individual therapy. During her internship with Burrell Behavioral Health, Jamie provided brief interventions with medical patients to encourage self-management, assisted with goal setting through motivational interviewing and other therapeutic methods, and co-facilitated a smoking cessation group. Jamie’s background includes experience as a social service aide, youth specialist, resident assistant, parenting class facilitator, regional specialist conducting pregnancy counseling and adoptive home studies, and therapist/case manager providing individual, group and family therapy, crisis intervention, case management, leading a DBT team, staff training and providing crisis intervention.

Kristen Hayes, MSW, LCSW

Kristen Hayes, LCSW, holds a Masters of Social Work from the University of Texas and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is an outpatient clinician in Columbia with expertise in group, family, and couples therapy, as well as working with clients with chemical dependency.

Marlene Howser, MA, LPC

Marlene Howser, LPC, is the Director of Youth Special Services at the Child and Adolescent Clinic in Columbia. She graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia with a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and is a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Rachel Jones, MEd, LPC

Rachel Jones received a Masters of Education degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 2007. Ms. Jones has experience in serving children, adolescents and adults through group therapy, parenting and crisis services. Currently, Ms. Jones serves as Director of Berrywood Child & Adolescent Clinic located in Columbia, Missouri.

Susan Langstraat, MSW, LCSW

Susan Langstraat is a graduate of the University of Missouri – Columbia School of Social Work and has an extensive background in treating individuals coping with depression, anxiety, physical and/or sexual abuse, PTSD, dissociative disorders, adjustment disorders, grief, and much more.  Susan has worked extensively in the area of family therapy, counseling individuals and families with issues relating to blended families, parenting concerns, marriage and relationship difficulties, and improving family dynamics.  Susan has worked significantly with seriously emotionally disturbed youth and provided parent coaching and counseling for many families.  Additionally, Susan has assisted many individuals and caregivers coping with an Autism diagnoses by helping them navigate the system of care, access services, and providing emotional support.  Susan is a member of Burrell Behavioral Health’s Central Region outpatient staff, specializing in chemical dependency, MRDD services, and group, family, play and marital therapies.

Robin McCartney, MSW, LCSW

Robin McCartney graduated with her Masters of Social Work from the University of Missouri Columbia in 1998. She has since gained significant experience in the delivery of behavioral health care through her work as a therapist and a clinical supervisor. Robin has served as a probation and parole officer, responsible for providing substance abuse and therapeutic treatment programming and, as a therapist, Robin has experience in providing individual, group and family therapies. Additionally, Robin’s background includes the facilitation of psycho-educational groups, assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning and clinical supervision of social work candidates and practicum students. Today Robin provides general behavioral health services as well as marital, group, family and substance abuse therapies in Burrell’s Central Region.

Karen Moss, MSW, LCSW

Karen Moss, LCSW graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with her Masters in Social Work in 1992. Since that time she has gained significant experience in the field of behavioral health, working in both a supervisory and hands-on, clinical capacity. Currently, as Clinical Manager of Burrell’s Marshall, MO facility, Karen is available to provide care for children ages six and up, as well as adolescents, adults and senior adults. In additional to general clinical services, Karen specializes in therapies for individuals with MRDD and also provides counseling to groups, couples and families.

Katherine Ottofy, MSW, LCSW

Katherine Ottofy, LCSW, earned a Master of Social Work from the University of Missouri in Columbia and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is an outpatient clinician at Burrell’s Stephen’s Lake Clinic in Columbia and has experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness.

Kristin Parkinson, MD

Dr. Parkinson earned her medical degree from University of Missouri in Columbia and completed her psychiatry residency at the University’s Hospitals and Clinics. She currently practices at the Stephens Lake Clinic in Columbia. She sees adult patients with a wide variety of psychiatric disorders.

Kavita Pendurthi, MD

Kavita Pendurthi, MD practices outpatient psychiatry in Burrell’s Central Region providing care to both adults and senior adults.  In addition to providing assessments, treatment planning, individual therapy, medical psychotherapy, medication management and administration, and psychiatric evaluations, she specializes in psychiatric care for individuals with chemical dependency and MRDD diagnoses.  A graduate of Kurnool Medical School in India, Dr. Pendurthi completed a family practice residency at Southern Illinois University, followed by a four-year psychiatry residency at Western Missouri Mental Health Center.  Dr. Pendurthi has practiced in a variety of clinical and behavioral health settings and has twice held the position of Chief Medical Officer.  Dr. Pendurthi is fluent in the English, Telugu and Hindi languages.

Anita Pinson, MA, LPC

Anita Pinson is a 2003 graduate of Webster University where she earned her Master of Arts in Counseling degree.  Upon graduation, Anita completed a counseling internship at Cornerstone Counseling providing therapy to all ages.  She has since worked in the Missouri Head Start Program where she implemented curriculum, modeled appropriate teaching methods for teachers, linked children and families with community resources,  problem solved in the classroom, and taught teaching techniques designed to promote positive classroom behavior.  As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Anita is experienced in the delivery of individual, family, and play therapies and in the design and implementation of treatment plans.  Currently, Anita serves as a Community Support Specialist, supporting clients and assisting them in connecting to community resources, reaching treatment goals and helping them understand and manage their mental health diagnoses.

Lora Rooker, MA, LPC, NCC

Lora Rooker, a Master’s level graduate of the University of Iowa, is a Licensed Professional Counselor available to provide behavioral health services to children, adolescents, adults and senior adults from Burrell’s Berrywood clinic in Columbia. As a Nationally Certified Counselor, Lora’s behavioral health care background includes significant experience in the areas of school counseling as well as the provision of group, individual and recreational therapies, and the delivery of care and daily living training to children and adults with Autism. Additionally, Lora’s experience includes the administration of individual and couple’s therapy, crisis evaluation and debriefing, and case management responsibilities.

Laura Smith, DO

Laura Smith earned a Master of Science Degree in Counseling Education from Mississippi State University in 2004, where she continued until 2005 to fulfill pre-medical requirements.  In 2006, Laura enrolled in the A. T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri where she earned a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine.  Upon completion of her doctoral degree, Laura completed both a psychiatric internship and residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center which included practice in the areas of primary care, neurology, inpatient psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, addiction psychiatry and more. Currently, Dr. Smith is a member of Burrell Behavioral Health’s psychiatric team, providing clinical assessments, treatment planning, individual and medical psychotherapy, medication management and administration, and psychiatric evaluations in Burrell’s Central Region to both adults and senior adults.

Gary Stoner, MSW, LCSW

Gary Stoner graduated from Missouri State University with his Master’s in Social Work where he was a member of the National Disability, National Adult Student, and National Social Work Honor Societies. Gary comes to Burrell with a broad spectrum of behavioral health care experience that includes working with troubled teens in both individual and group settings; policy-making, research and data collection done through Greene County’s Family and Juvenile Drug Court program; and, practicum work in Burrell’s Homeless Services Department including case management, daily operations at the drop-in center, and the facilitation of related trainings. Additionally, Gary has served at Burrell as a Community Support Specialist conducting clinical assessments and acting as Administrator of the Supportive Community Living Housing Program, Chair of the 2010 Project Homeless Connect, and Psychosocial Rehabilitation Supervisor.

Ahmed Taranissi, MD

Dr. Taranissi earned his medical degree from the Cairo Medical School and completed his psychiatry residency at the University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia Missouri. Dr. Taranissi’s areas of interest are ADHD, Autism, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, and MDD. He is board certified in General and Child and Adolescent psychiatry and is currently practicing at Burrell’s Outpatient Clinic in Columbia.

Abram Wilks, MSW, LCSW

Abram Wilks, LCSW, graduated with his Master of Social Work from the University of Missouri in Columbia and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Abram is an outpatient clinician Burrell’s Outpatient Clinic in Columbia and has over six years of experience working with adolescents and adults suffering from an array of chronic mental health issues.

Johanna Womack, LPC

Johanna Womack is a Licensed Professional Counselor providing behavioral health care in Burrell’s Moberly, Missouri facility. Johanna earned her Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Webster University-Rolla in 2008 and has since gained extensive experience in various areas of behavioral health care including case management, independent living instruction, completion of assessments, development of treatment plans, and providing individual and group therapies. Johanna is available to provide care to children, adolescents and adults.
