Pratibha Agarwal, MD
Dr. Pratibha Agarwal is a medical graduate of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Nepal. During her study at Tribhuvan, Dr. Agarwal completed a compulsory, rotating internship where she gained experience in internal medicine, surgery and orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, and pediatrics. While at Tribhuvan, she also earned distinction in Microbiology, Community Medicine, Applied Epidemiology, and Forensic Pathology. Between 2009 and 2013, Dr. Agarwal completed a post-graduate psychiatric residency program at Nassau University Medical Center in New York where she served for one year as Chief Resident. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Agarwal pursued a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Stony Brook University Hospital. In 2013, Dr. Agarwal earned the Ambulatory Mental Health Services Award, for her excellence in clinical care and leadership and Nassau University Medical Center. As part of Burrell Behavioral Health’s outpatient psychiatric team, Dr. Agarwal provides care to patients of all ages, specializing in treatment for chemical dependency and also in the delivery of play, group and family therapies.
Patrice Allmon, BCBA
Patrice Allmon, BCBA, graduated from Missouri State University with a Master of Science in Education and is a licensed Behavior Analyst. She practices at our Children’s Center, and has experience working with children, adolescents, and adults.
Sabrina B. Aronson, MS
Sabrina B. Aronson is a Psychologist and Clinical Coordinator at our Children’s Center in Springfield. She earned a Master of Science from Central Missouri State University. Her specialties include working with children, adolescents, and young adults with anxiety disorders, trauma, identity issues, and/or depression.
Dorothy Baker, MSW, LCSW
Dorothy Baker, LCSW, received her Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University and then went on to complete her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Minnesota in 2004. She completed an internship with the Dakota County Community Corrections in MN, where her focus was intensive individual & family therapy. Dorothy has experience in a number of different clinical backgrounds, from public schools, to forensic services, and more recently in the mental health field. Dorothy currently provides care to ages ranging from adolescent to senior adult, and specializes in group, family and marital therapy as an outpatient clinician at Burrell Behavioral Health’s Children’s Center.
Susan Baker, MS, LPC
Susan Baker, LPC, graduated from Missouri State University with a Master of Science in Counseling with a Community Agency tract and is a licensed professional counselor. She is a Community Support Supervisor at our Transitions office in Springfield, and has experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
Paula Barnes-Wiesehan, RN, FPMHNP
After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southwest Baptist University, Paula Wiesehan continued her education through the University of Missouri-Kansas City, earning a Master of Science in Nursing. Additionally, Paula is currently pursuing a Doctorate Degree with Chamberlain College of Nursing, which she will complete this year. As a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Paula has experience in primary care, providing diagnosis and management of acute illnesses and minor injuries. Through her psychiatric outpatient practice, Paula is passionate about providing high quality, patient-centered psychiatric care that includes medication management and psychotherapy to patients struggling with psychiatric and mental health issues. Currently, Paula is a member of the Advanced Psychiatric Nurses Association, Advanced Practice Nurses of the Ozarks, Missouri Nurses Association, and Association of Missouri Nurse Practitioners. As a member of Burrell Behavioral Health, Paula will provide services to children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults.
Shawna Baron, PsyD
Shawna Baron is a licensed psychologist who obtained her doctoral degree from The School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute in 2012. Dr. Baron conducts psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults at Burrell’s Kingsley Clinic. Clinical assessments include diagnostic clarification regarding ADHD, intellectual testing, dementia/neurocognitive disorders, pre-bariatric surgery, behavioral disorders, and serious mental illness. Dr. Baron’s special interests include religious identity, trauma and law enforcement issues, as well as criminal and sexual offending. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Baron enjoys providing professional education and supervising predoctoral level psychology interns. She also serves as the Early Career Professional Chairperson for the Missouri Psychological Association.
Bonnie Baumberger, MS, LPC
Bonnie Baumberger attended Missouri State University in Springfield, where she earned a Master of Counseling Degree in 2004. In 2005, Bonnie became a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Missouri and has since provided behavioral health services to individuals of all ages, couples, and families presenting with a variety of counseling needs including marital therapy, crisis intervention, chemical dependency, play therapy, and more. Bonnie has significant experience in working with foster children and their families and in appearing as an expert witness, providing testimony in foster care cases within the court system. Bonnie has provided outpatient care in several clinics and has also managed a private practice in the Springfield, MO area. Currently, Bonnie is employed with Burrell Behavioral Health where she delivers crisis intervention and related care at Burrell’s Adult Crisis Facility.
Sandra Best, MSW, LCSW
Sandra Best, LCSW, is a Master’s level graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing care to all ages and specializing in MRDD services; sexual abuse evaluations; play, group, family and marital therapies; and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. Sandra’s background includes extensive experience in dealing with cases of child abuse and neglect, developing services for the developmentally disabled, and providing crisis intervention services. Since 1993 Sandra has provided behavioral health services as an outpatient clinician and currently sees individuals in Burrell’s Branson facility.
Mark Bowers, RN, FPMHNP
After completing the ASN Nursing program at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, in conjunction with Mercy, Mark Bowers continued his education at Saint Louis University where he graduated with a Master’s of Science in Nursing in 2014. For several years, Mark has practiced nursing within the inpatient psychiatric setting, providing both psychiatric and physical assessments of patients, medication administration, and facilitating patient transfers and discharges. Additionally, as a psychiatric evaluation nurse, Mark’s experience includes interviewing and assessing individuals of all ages experiencing crisis, consulting with physicians and advanced nursing staff regarding patient care, facilitating transfers and connecting patients to appropriate community resources upon discharge. Mark is presently a member of Burrell’s outpatient psychiatric team and delivers care to adults and senior adults at the Main Center in Springfield.
Amber Brewer, MSN, FPMHNP
After receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cox College of Nursing and Master in Health Administration from Ohio University, Amber Brewer earned her second Master of Science in Nursing from Cox College of Nursing and Health Sciences in 2014. As a Board Certified Family Practice Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Amber has experience with inpatient adult psychiatric units, therapeutic nursing in an acute psychiatric setting, as well as executing detailed evaluations. Currently, Amber is a staff member at the Main Center of Burrell Behavioral Health and assists with the psychiatric needs of adults and senior adults.

Shelley Buck, LPC, graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with her Master of Science in Counseling and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. Shelley is the Coordinator the Semi-Independent Apartment and START Living programs.
Melissa Burns, MSW, LCSW
Melissa Burns, LCSW, is our Children’s Day Treatment Assistant Director. Melissa earned a Master of Social Work from Southwest Missouri State University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker specializing in child and family therapy.
Lutie Butcher, Psy.D, LPC
Lutie Butcher, LPC, earned her Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology and is an outpatient therapist and Community Support Supervisor in Burrell’s Bolivar office. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in child and adolescent individual, group, family, and play therapy.
Barbara Campbell, MS, LPC, CASAC
Barb Campbell, LPC, is the Health Coach Supervisor for the Missouri Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (MOSBIRT) project which is currently based in Cox North Emergency Room. She earned her Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from Southwest Missouri State University. Barb is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Advanced Substance Abuse Counselor.
Marissa Casey, PsyD
Dr. Marissa Casey graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Missouri State University’s Honors College in 2009. Marissa continued her graduate education at the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology where she submitted a thesis on “Socioemotional Challenges of Gifted Children: Comparison with the Autism Spectrum,” and earned a Master’s degree in 2012. In 2015, Marissa was awarded a Doctorate in Psychology following completion of a pre-doctoral internship in Clinical Psychology in Logansport, IN. During her internship, Marissa provided psychological care to children, adolescents and adults in an outpatient setting and delivered acute care to adults in an inpatient crisis stabilization facility. Additionally, Marissa provided educational assessments and gained significant experience in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of psychological disorders including serious mental illness, comorbid personality disorders, and comorbid substance-related disorders. Dr. Casey delivers care in Burrell Behavioral Health’s Marshfield Clinic, where she sees individuals aged six and up, providing individual therapy, assessments, treatment and discharge planning and psychological evaluations. Additionally, Dr. Casey provides group therapy and Parent Child Interaction Therapy.
William Russ Carter, PsyD
Russ Carter began his study of psychology in 1976 at Willamette University where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in the field. He continued at Pittsburg State University, earning a Master of Science in Psychology with an emphasis in Community Agency Counseling and, in 1989, earned a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, MO. Dr. Carter has extensive experience in the delivery of psychological care and has practiced family therapy, marital therapy, alcohol and drug abuse counseling, and more in a variety of clinical settings. His background includes performing assessments, diagnosis and treatment of cognitive, emotional and behavioral disorders in adolescents and adults and he has worked extensively within the
Federal Prison system treating inmates manifesting major mental illness. Currently, Dr. Carter delivers outpatient psychological care to adults and senior adults at Burrell’s Main Center, specializing in chemical dependency, forensic evaluations, and group, family and marital therapies.
Melissa Chang, MS, LPC
Melissa Chang graduated from Missouri State University with a Master of Science degree in counseling, following completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Sociology from Drury University. Melissa, a Licensed Professional Counselor, completed a counseling internship at The Kitchen through which she provided
behavioral health care for individuals presenting with bipolar disorder, anxiety, depression, drug and alcohol dependency, sexual abuse, and much more. Upon completion of her internship, Melissa continued her service at The Kitchen, leading groups in anger management, anxiety and depression. Additionally, Melissa continued to provide counseling services to homeless individuals, families and children while providing crisis intervention and conflict resolution as needed. Currently, Melissa provides outpatient counseling services at Burrell’s Clarity – Park Facility where she specializes in the treatment of chemical dependency as well as group, family, and marital therapies.
Nagib Chowdhury, MD
A graduate of Dhaka Medical College, Bangladesh, Dr. Nagib Chowdhury joined Burrell Behavioral Health as a staff psychiatrist upon completion of his psychiatric residency at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Chowdhury’s clinical experience includes the provision of direct care to patients of all ages and has provided him opportunities to explore a number of subspecialties such as affective disorders, Neurobehavioral issues, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, sleep disorders and many more. Dr. Chowdhury is currently available to provide general psychiatric care, and specialized care for cases involving chemical dependency or mental retardation/developmental disabilities, at Burrell’s Main Center in Springfield.
Teresa Coleman, MS, LPC
Teresa Coleman, LPC, is a 2008 graduate of Missouri State University and holds a Master of Science Degree in Counseling /Secondary School Counseling. Ms. Coleman is a Licensed Professional Counselor with significant experience in addressing a variety of issues ranging from severe depression, relationship concerns, and parenting difficulties and she holds certification in Child Parent Relationship Training. Additionally, Ms. Coleman’s background includes instructing graduate-level courses in career counseling and the delivery of career counseling to persons with physical and or mental impairments. Today, Ms. Coleman is part of Burrell’s School-based programming through which she provides individual therapy and facilitates group and family programming.
Angela Coulter, MSW, LCSW
Following completion of her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, Angela Coulter continued her education at St. Louis University where she earned a Master’s in Social Work in 2000. Early in her social work career, Angela was actively involved in caring for abused women and children who were victims of domestic abuse– by answering crisis calls, assisting them through group therapy, and linking them appropriately to educational and other resources, Angela helped many individuals live safer, healthier lives. While working with developmentally disabled populations, Angela created programming that enhanced each client’s cognitive, emotional, social and physical skills and additionally, during her experience on a psychiatric inpatient ward and in a Major Psychiatric Disorder clinic, she created specialized programming for substance abusers while co-facilitating support groups geared toward PTSD and Depression. As Angela’s career progressed, she gained significant experience in working with school-aged youth and at-risk adolescents—she has been involved extensively in programming geared toward positive intervention that focuses on the child, the family and educational staff and has provided extensive counseling in the areas of truancy, academia, family and peer relations, violence prevention training and more. As part of Burrell Behavioral Health’s outpatient clinical staff, Angela sees clients, ages two to adult, and specializes in play, group and family therapies.
Cassandra Cox, MSN, PMHNP
Cassandra Cox earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Cox College of Nursing in 2006 and continued her education at the University of Central Missouri, graduating with a Master of Science in Nursing in May 2012. As a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, as well as a member of Neuroscience Education Institute and American Psychiatric Nurses Association, Cassandra has experience in primary care, providing diagnosis and management of interventional pain management, acute illnesses and minor injuries, and executing detailed evaluations. Cassandra is providing psychiatric care to adult and senior adult clients at Burrell Behavioral Health Main Center.
Deonna Crabtree, MA, LPC
Deonna Crabtree is a Licensed Professional Counselor practicing behavioral health care within Burrell’s Transitions program in Springfield, MO. Deonna attended Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, OH and earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling in the year 2000. Prior to becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, Deonna held a variety of related positions, including a faculty position in the psychology department at Southeastern College where she also served as the Director of Counseling and established a campus counseling center, conducted mental health screenings, trained student leaders about mental health issues and more. Deonna’s background also includes work as a campus residential director and as a match support coordinator in a child mentoring program. Additionally, Deonna has previous experience as an Executive Director of Counseling and Wellness. Currently, she is a member of Burrell’s Transitions team where she provides counseling services to adults of all ages and facilitates counseling group counseling programs.
Terri Crawford, M.Ed., LCSW
Terri Crawford, LCSW, is a Clinical Coordinator for Burrell’s Crisis Assist Team (CAT) located in our Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit (ACSU). Terri graduated from Drury University with her Master of Education and Human Services and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Judy Darst, MS, LPC
Judy Darst earned a Master of Science Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Missouri State University and now works in Burrell’s CSTAR facility where she provides behavioral health services to adolescents with substance abuse issues. Judy’s background demonstrates expertise in providing counseling to a variety of clients including Federally incarcerated inmates, as well as elementary, junior high, high school, and college students. She is experienced in conducting child abuse investigations, family counseling, individual and group therapies, crisis counseling and career counseling. Additionally, Judy holds a Missouri Life Certificate which qualifies her to conduct psychological testing.
Todd F. Deneen, PsyD
Todd Deneen earned a Master of Science, with emphasis in Health Education, from The College of Brockport in New York. Todd worked as a prevention educator within New York’s Delphi Drug and Alcohol Council prior to becoming a psychiatric technician within a child and adolescent inpatient unit. In 2009, Todd enrolled in the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, MO. He completed a psychology internship with Burrell Behavioral Health and graduated with a Doctorate in Psychology in 2014. Upon graduating, Dr. Deneen practiced psychology in Athens, Georgia before returning to Springfield where he joined the outpatient staff of Burrell Behavioral Health’s clinic in Hollister, MO. Dr. Deneen is available to provide clinical assessments, individual therapy, psychological evaluations and treatment planning to persons aged six and up. Additionally, Dr. Deneen’s practice includes the provision of both forensic and custody evaluations when needed.

Allan DeWoody, LPC, holds a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from Southwest Missouri State University and is a therapist for Burrell’s Adult Crisis Stabilization Unit. Allan is a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Jeremy Dickson, MA, LPC
Jeremy Dickson, LPC, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Evangel University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Human Services in 2010 and then received his Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in 2014. Jeremy’s background includes experience counseling individuals who struggle with chronic and persistent mental illness and helping them obtain relevant treatment and care. Jeremy is also experienced in individual & family counseling sessions, both in-home and in-office. Jeremy specializes in adult chemical dependency and works for Burrell Behavioral Health at our Transitions facility as a PPR Therapist.
Diane Ellis, PsyD
Diane Ellis earned both her Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, MO. Following her psychology internship in Southeast Kansas, Diane completed a psychology residency at the Robert J. Murney Clinic where she continued her psychology practice, providing individual and family therapy, psychological evaluations, psycho educational programs, substance abuse evaluations and more. Dr. Ellis also served as Practicum Supervisor and the Director of Internship Training at the Murney Clinic. She has earned certification in a number of behavioral health areas including that of Qualified Substance Abuse Professional; Integrated Health Care: Practice, Consultation, and Management; Pain Management; and Mediation Training. Additionally, Dr. Ellis has earned Core Certification in Missouri in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and she is a Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional. At present, Dr. Ellis provides care to adults and senior adults at Burrell’s Transitions facility where she conducts clinical assessments, psychosocial histories, individual and group therapy, and psychological evaluations.
Merry Escano-Brown, MD
Dr. Escano-Brown graduated from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center with her Medical Degree and completed her psychiatry residency at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans. She specializes in adult and senior adult psychiatric services and practices at Transitions.
Tedra Estis, FPMHNP
Tedra Estis received her Associate Degree in Nursing in 2011, Bachelor Degree in Nursing in 2012, and Master’s Degree in Nursing Education in 2013 from Southwest Baptist University, in conjunction with Mercy College of Nursing. Tedra continued her education at the University of Cincinnati where she graduated with a Master’s of Science in Nursing, earning her certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Tedra has extensive experience instructing and guiding students in clinical settings as a clinical instructor for multiple colleges. Currently, Tedra is a member of the Advanced Psychiatric Nurses Association and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner board. Through her psychiatric practice, Tedra can conduct but is not limited to psychiatric evaluations, individual and medical psychotherapy, and treatment planning of adult and senior adult patients.
Joyce Everson, Psy.D.
Joyce Everson is a licensed Psychologist who has enjoyed working at Burrell for over 25 years. Dr. Everson earned her Doctor of Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology and she specializes in adult psychotherapy at the Main Center in Springfield.
Andrea Fenton, MSW, LCSW
Andrea Fenton earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at the University of Mississippi in 2006 and, in 2009 earned her Master’s in Social Work from Missouri State University. Throughout her practicum experience, Andrea gained valuable insight into the facilitation of psycho-educational groups, conducting mental health screenings and assessments and coordinating care within the community for families and individuals. Since that time, Andrea has continued to develop her skills as a social worker through the delivery of care in a hospital setting and also as an outpatient counselor, helping families and individuals of all ages with a variety of behavioral health concerns including anxiety, depression, anger management, relationship and family issues, and more. In addition to providing individual counseling, Andrea also provides Parent Child Interaction Therapy.
Sheila Forsyth, MS, LPC
With a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling, both earned at Missouri State University, Sheila Forsyth, LPC comes to Burrell with broad-based knowledge of the delivery of behavioral health services. As Clinical Coordinator for Burrell’s Crisis Assist Team, Sheila’s background includes experience as a Rehabilitation Counselor, Clinical Trial Coordinator, Psychotherapist and Transition Coordinator. In additional to providing general clinical services for adults and senior adults, Sheila specializes in behavioral health care for MRDD clients as well as group or family therapies.
Janet Fritsch, MS, CCC-SLP
Janet Fritsch, CCC-SLP, graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences with a Master of Science in Speech Pathology/Communication Disorders and is a licensed Speech Language Pathologist. Janet currently works in the Burrell Autism Center located in the Child and Adolescent Center in Springfield.
Elizabeth Fu, MSW, LCSW
Elizabeth Fu earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO prior to earning her Master’s in Social Work from Missouri State University in 2003. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Elizabeth’s background includes the delivery of behavioral health services to children and adolescents in a residential setting where she provided counseling to both individuals and families, facilitated group counseling for residents, regularly coordinated activities for family events, and wrote treatment plans in collaboration with residents, their families, and relevant staff. Between 2008 and 2014, Elizabeth resided in China where she taught the English language to Chinese elementary and middle school students, as well as adults; taught courses in American History and Culture; and taught classes designed for preparation for the International English Language Testing System exam. Upon returning to the United States, Elizabeth joined Burrell Behavioral Health’s staff as a Medical Case Manager, assisting clients infected with HIV/AIDS in obtaining health care coverage, tracking lab results and medical appointments, and maintaining related records. Currently, Elizabeth practices a Case Manager at Burrell’s Clinic located within Cox North Hospital where she sees individuals aged six and up.
Edgar Galinanes, MD
Dr. Galinanes earned his Medical Degree at Central University of the Caribbean, School of Medicine in Puerto Rico and completed his psychiatry residency at the Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center in the Bronx, NY. He is a board certified psychiatrist and practices inpatient psychiatry at Cox North.
Theresa Gannon, PhD
Theresa Gannon earned both a Master’s and Doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Temple University in Pennsylvania. She completed a clinical psychology internship in Eastern Virginia Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and a post-doctoral fellowship in developmental disabilities at John Hopkins University School of Medicine’s Kennedy Krieger Institute. Dr. Gannon has significant experience in the areas of developmental disabilities and developmental/behavioral pediatrics and, as a neuropsychologist, has utilized a variety of comprehensive diagnostic tools in assessing the developmental, emotional and neuropsychological functioning of children with autism, learning disabilities, psychiatric presentations, genetic disorders, chronic medical conditions, neurological disorders, ADHD, and more. Dr. Gannon is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist, providing psychological services at Burrell Behavioral Health’s Children’s Center in Springfield, MO. Dr. Gannon specializes in MRDD services, as well as group, family, play, and Parent-Child Interaction therapies.
Mathew Gass, MSW, LCSW
Mathew Gass, LCSW, received his Masters of Social Work from University of Missouri Columbia and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He is an outpatient clinician in the Sedalia office. His area of focus is working with adults, families and children, primarily through Cognitive Behavioral Techniques and Dialectical Behavior Therapy.
Krishnendu Ghosh, MD
Dr. Krishnendu Ghosh is a medical graduate of Tribhuvan University in Nepal. Through the course of his study of psychiatry, Dr. Ghosh has completed research and written peer reviewed papers on the subjects of Alzheimer’s disease, the validity of the Schwartz Outcome Scale, and Penduncular hallucinosis. Dr. Ghosh served as Medical Officer and Surgical Medical Officer in India, prior to beginning his post-graduate residency at the Nassau University Medical Center in New York. At NUMC, Dr. Ghosh served as Chief Resident in the Department of Psychiatry and earned the Research Scholar Award for two consecutive years. Dr. Ghosh is a member of Burrell Behavioral Health’s outpatient psychiatric team where he sees individuals ages 13 and up and specializes in treatment for chemically dependent individuals.
Sally Gibson, MS, LPC, NCC
Sally Gibson earned her Master’s Degree in Community Counseling at Oklahoma State University in 1989. In 1997 she earned certification from the National Board for Certified Counselors and in 1998 became a Licensed Professional Counselor. Sally’s background includes counseling and teaching learning disabled and emotionally disturbed youth, working as a teaching and/or research assistant at the University level, and significant experience as a University instructor and substance abuse counselor. Currently, Sally serves as the Director of Burrell’s Adolescent Substance Abuse program, known for its practical, effective and evidence-based approach to helping adolescent alcohol and/or drug abusers and their families.
Chelsea Gilliam, PsyD, LPC
Chelsea Gilliam graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi College with a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling in 2008. She continued her education at Forest Institute of Professional Psychology where she completed a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology in 2014. Chelsea has significant experience in the delivery of behavioral health services through her work as an outpatient counselor. Prior to beginning her doctorate, Chelsea assessed youth, conducted individual and group therapies with incarcerated and other juvenile offenders, and provided in-home assessment and therapy services for families with children in State custody or at risk of residential placement. Chelsea’s doctoral and post-doctoral experience includes outpatient therapy, assessment and testing for children (3+), adolescents and adults presenting with a variety of diagnoses and providing outpatient therapy services in an integrated health care setting. Chelsea’s research interests include the intricacies of providing mental health services to rural areas as well as infertility counseling for women. Currently, Chelsea is available to see individuals three and older at Jordan Valley Community Health Center in Springfield, MO where she also conducts weekly groups as part of their pain management program.
Sateesh Gunda, MD
Dr. Sateesh Gunda earned his medical degree at Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, India in 2006. In 2012, Dr. Gunda completed a psychiatry internship at the University of North Dakota, followed by a psychiatric residency, also at the University of North Dakota, which concluded in 2015. Dr. Gunda has participated in significant research related to ADHD and related evidence-based treatments, has served in inpatient settings with children, adolescents and adults presenting with mental health issues, chemical dependency addiction, and co-occurring disorders, and has gained experience in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatry through his respective rotations. Currently, Dr. Gunda provides psychiatric care at Burrell’s Main Center in Springfield where he sees adult clients ages 18 to 54.
Joel Gurule, MA, LPC
Joel Gurulé attended the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2005. In 2009, Joel was awarded Master of Arts degrees in his dual concentrations of Professional Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy by the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri. Joel’s background includes the delivery of behavioral health services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disturbances/neurobiological disorders; delivering individual, couple, group and family therapies; teaching independent living skills and social skills development; facilitation of psycho-educational groups; and more. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Joel’s work within Burrell Behavioral Health’s continuum of care includes positions of residential specialist, community support supervisor, and currently ICRC Program Director and Psychosocial Rehabilitation Therapist.
Michael Hall, MA, LPC
Michael Hall, LPC, earned a Master of Arts in Counseling from the Denver Seminary. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and specializes in individual and family counseling, including children, adolescents and adults. He is an outpatient therapist at the Children’s Center in Springfield.
Elena Hart, MS, LPC
Elena Hart earned her Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from Missouri State University in 1996 and in 1998 became a Licensed Professional Counselor. Her work in the behavioral health field includes experience in the delivery of individual, family and group therapies, performing assessments in cases involving sexually maladaptive behavior, trauma, anger management and family issues, and also adult targeted case management and crisis intervention. Elena is a member of the National Association for Professional Women and also the American Counseling Association and currently provides behavioral health care within Burrell’s Transitions program.

Following graduation from Drury University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Ashley Hartwig continued her education at Missouri State University earning a Master’s Degree in Counseling and now works as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Burrell’s C-STAR (Comprehensive Substance Treatment and Rehabilitation) program providing care to adolescents dealing with substance abuse and related issues. Ashley’s background includes the delivery of services to adolescents, adults and senior adults experiencing a variety of behavioral health issues through individual, family and group therapies as well as leading groups focused specifically on anger management.

Susan Henderson is Director of the Burrell Autism Center and Children’s Day Treatment. She earned a Master of Science from the University of Central Arkansas and is a licensed psychologist with specialties in Autism, Attachment Disorders, and various children’s mental health issues.

David Holloway, MS, LPC, earned his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the Community College of the Air Force in 1985. David went on to earn a Master of Science in Criminal Justice/Psychology from Drury University in 2014 and proceeded to graduate with another Master of Science in Counseling/Psychology from Evangel University in 2016. David worked as a graduate Intern at Burrell Behavioral Health, providing outpatient counseling to adult & adolescent patients, families and couples and co-facilitated a group for Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as conducted an Anger Management Group for adults. David now provides healthcare and treatment as a therapist at Burrell Behavioral Health’s Children’s Center.

Dr. Wanda Holloway, Psy.D, LCSW, CASAC, LPC, graduated from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology with her Doctor of Psychology. Dr. Holloway is also a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Advanced Substance Abuse Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Certified Forensics Addictions Examiner. She is an outpatient therapist at the Main Center in Springfield who specializes in chemical dependency, eating disorders and obesity, as well as biofeedback.
Linda Holtz, MA, LPC
Linda Holtz, LPC earned a Master of Arts in Counselor Education from Siena Heights College leading her to become a Licensed Professional Counselor. A background for Linda includes specialized treatment in crisis intervention, immediate support and guidance, individual and family counseling, and provided various behavioral trainings. Linda is working with Burrell’s Emergency Room Diversion program known as ERE, and is successfully finding alternatives to costly inpatient admissions for those in crisis.
Kelly Huisenga, ND, MS, LPC,
Kelly Huisenga, LPC, earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, went on to get her Masters in Guidance and Counseling from Southwest Missouri State University in 1991, and then received her Doctorate of Naturopathy from Clayton College of Natural Health and graduated with High Honors in 2008. Not only has Kelly worked in mental health as a therapist, facilitator and educator, but she’s also experienced in Natural and Alternative Healthcare. Kelly works with all ages, from child to adult and is working for Burrell, in tandem with Cox Medical Centers, as Dental Behavioral Health Coordinator overseeing the Dental Health Grant.

Dr. Jain graduated from King George’s Medical College in Lucknow, India with his Medical Degree and completed his psychiatry residency at University of Missouri in Columbia. He has been a board certified psychiatrist since 1999 and is currently practicing at the Main Center in Springfield. He sees patients of all ages and specializes in chemical dependency services.
Subodh Jain, MD
Dr. Subodh Jain is a Board Certified Psychiatrist practicing outpatient psychiatry at Burrell’s Main Center in Springfield. Dr. Jain earned his medical degree in India before completing both his post-doctoral internship and residency at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in general psychiatry as well as other disciplines including family medicine, neurology, and child and adolescent psychiatry. Following completion of his residency, Dr. Jain completed a fellowship through SIU in child and adolescent psychiatry where he gained significant experience in the practice of inpatient psychiatry for those age groups and served as Chief Administrative Fellow. Dr. Jain provides outpatient psychiatric care to individuals of all ages, specializing in the clinical treatment of those with MRDD and chemical dependency diagnoses.
Jeffrey Jenkins, MD
Dr. Jeffrey Jenkins is a graduate of the University of Missouri’s School of Medicine where he completed a one year post-graduate internship and a two-year residency program in Psychiatry at the University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia, MO. Dr. Jenkins completed his fourth year Psychiatry residency at the University of Utah where he was appointed Assistant Chief Resident. As a member of the United States Army Reserve, Dr. Jenkins’ background includes active duty service during the Persian Gulf War where he served as both a general medical officer and general psychiatrist. Dr. Jenkins’ experience includes the delivery of general psychiatry in both inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as psychiatric care for adolescents in residential care. Currently, Dr. Jenkins delivers outpatient psychiatric care and consultation to adults and senior adults at Burrell’s main center in Springfield.

Sarah K. Johnson, LPC, earned her Master of Science in Counseling from Missouri State University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is a trauma therapist for Burrell’s Youth Substance Abuse Services program located in the Children’s Center. Sarah has expertise working in group and family settings with children and adolescents living with substance abuse issues.
Candace Jones, MSW, LCSW
A 1994 graduate of Walla Walla University, Candace Jones is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker delivering behavioral health services to adolescents, adults, and senior adults in Burrell Behavioral Health’s Children’s Center facility in Springfield, MO. Ms. Jones specializes in the facilitation of group, family and marital therapies as well as the delivery of behavioral health services to individuals of the mentally retarded and developmentally disabled populations. Ms. Jones’ background includes extensive experience in providing case management, therapeutic services and service coordination for a variety of age groups including those with severe and persistent mental illness.
Rebecca Koehler, MA, SLP
Rebecca Koehler obtained a Master of Arts degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Kansas in 1974. She worked for 23 years for the State of Kansas at a residential treatment center and has over 35 years of experience with individuals who have autism spectrum disorders and others with severe communication and language problems. She is licensed in the state of Missouri as a Speech Language Pathologist and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology from the American Speech and Hearing Association. Ms. Koehler provides speech/language assessments and related therapy to children ages two and up, adolescents and also adults in Burrell’s Autism Center.
Shirley Ann Kolkmeyer, MS, LPC
Shirley Ann Kolkmeyer, LPC, earned her Master of Science in Counseling and Human Relations from Villanova University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is an outpatient clinician at the Children’s Center in Springfield and her clinical specialties include children over six years of age, adolescents, adults, and families, as well as Christian-based counseling.
Karen Kovalik, MS, LPC
Karen Kovalik earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Eastern Connecticut State University in 2004 and in 2008 graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Master of Science in Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage, Family and Child Therapy. Karen’s background includes significant experience in crisis intervention services, working with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, and mental health and risk assessments for seriously emotionally disturbed youth. Linda Lazzari, APN
A Master’s level graduate from Upstate Medical University in New York, Linda Lazzari earned her post-master’s Board Certification as a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2011 from Binghamton University’s Decker School of Nursing. Linda’s extensive background in nursing includes all levels of care including work as a staff nurse, charge nurse and nurse supervisor. Additionally, as a Certified Nurse Educator, Linda has significant experience in clinical nursing instruction. Linda, who works primarily from Burrell’s Main Center in Springfield, is available to deliver individual therapy, treatment planning, psychiatric evaluations, medical psychotherapy, medication administration, and discharge planning to individuals over the age of six years.

Polly Letsch graduated with her Bachelor’s in Social Work in 2001 and her Master’s in Social Work in 2005 from Missouri State University in Springfield, MO. Polly has experience with foster youth, pregnant and parenting teens, senior adults, crisis counseling, addiction treatment, severe and persistent mental illnesses, people living with HIV/AIDS, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for personality disorders, and behavioral modification for children. Polly currently works as a Behavioral Health Consultant with Burrell’s Jordan Valley clinic. Polly provides Cognitive Behavioral and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

William Mallot, Psy.D.
Bill Mallot earned his doctorate degree at the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology. Before earning her Master of Science Degree in Community Agency Counseling from Missouri State University, Cristin Martinez attended College of the Ozarks where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and another in Spanish. Cristin has significant counseling experience acquired through internships with the Women’s Crisis Center of Taney County, Upward Bound and Center City Counseling of Springfield, MO. Her background includes significant experience in the delivery of counseling services to both individuals and families, facilitating support team meetings, working with families to connect with local resources, teaching parenting, anger management, life, and budgeting skills, and much more. Cristin, who is fluent in Spanish, is currently available to provide outpatient counseling in Burrell’s Branson office.
Kristen Marshall, MSN, RD
Kristen Marshall earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, where she was a student-athlete. In 2014, she earned a Master of Science in Nutrition from Bastyr University, a leader of education in natural health arts and sciences, located in Seattle, WA. There she was a student of a science-based curriculum that provided education on whole foods, environmental awareness of food choices, and complimentary medicine. She gained clinical experience at the Bastyr Center for Natural Health and electively took courses in Intuitive Eating, Therapeutic Cooking, and Herbal Medicine Making. She was additionally selected to be a student clinician for the Diabetes and Cardiovascular Wellness Clinic at Bastyr Center for Natural Health. She became a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in 2015, following the completion of a supervised practice that emphasized community/public health and clinical nutrition through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Kristen advocates a sustainable, non-diet approach to nutrition therapy and believes in the importance and possibility of developing a healthy relationship with food and body. She currently provides dietitian services at the Burrell Kingsley Clinic, where she specializes in eating disorders and offers individualized nutrition assessment and therapy, to include nutritional counseling and/or education, for a variety of health concerns including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, food allergies, and more.
Leigh Ann McGhee, MA, LPC
Leigh Ann McGhee, LPC, graduated from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary with her Master of Arts in Professional Counseling and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She is an outpatient therapist at our Transitions facility in Springfield and works primarily with individuals with co-occurring disorders.
Gloria Meller, MS, LPC
After completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, with a minor in Crime and Society, Gloria Meller gained significant experience in the areas of law and counseling through her work in the Juvenile Court system, as a Probation Officer, and also through her work in private law firms where she served as both legal assistant and paralegal. Gloria returned to Missouri State University to pursue her Master of Science in Counseling and in 2008 became a Licensed Professional Counselor. Since that time, Gloria has completed a 600-hour internship providing individual therapy to children, adolescents, families and couples; supervised parent/child visits; and, facilitated educational classes through the Greene County Family Judicial Court. Additionally, Gloria’s experience includes serving as an in-home specialist, student support services coordinator and delivering outpatient counseling to individuals and families. Currently, Gloria is a member of Burrell Behavioral Health’s School-Based Services team through which she coordinates care and serves as a liaison between child, family, school and community.

Teddi Mitchell, LPC graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Leo College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and then continued her education at Richmont Graduate University, earning a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. Teddi’s background includes experience in counseling individuals with grief, mood disorders, depression, codependency, career and relationship concerns and substance abuse. Teddi is a Licensed Professional Counselor providing outpatient behavioral health services to adults in Hollister, Missouri.
Darren Myers, MS, LPC
A member of Burrell’s Crisis Team, Darren Myers obtained his Master of Science in Counseling from Missouri State University. In addition to crisis prevention or intervention services, Darren has extensive experience as a case manager, residential specialist, special education teacher, BD/ED classroom instructor, and MO Options Program Director. He has worked with clients in both academic and behavioral health environments and has completed over 400 hours of professional development while maintaining membership in a number of professional organizations. Darren is a Licensed Professional Counselor, holds Missouri Certification in Secondary Counseling and also a Missouri Teachers Certification (cross categorical).

Esther Nelson, MS, LPC
Esther Nelson earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Evangel University in 2009 and currently works as a Licensed Professional Counselor, specializing in chemical dependency, in Burrell’s MOSBIRT (Missouri Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) program, an early intervention program that aims to assist individuals who, upon screening, reveal a higher risk of abusing alcohol and/or drugs. In addition to her experience as a substance abuse counselor, Esther’s background includes the delivery of general behavioral health care and providing community support within residential programs.
Kendra Page, MS, LPC
Kendra Page earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Ashland University in Ohio, then attended Evangel University where she graduated with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology. In 2011, Kendra became a provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor and began practicing outpatient therapy in the Springfield, MO area. Kendra’s background includes the implementation of behavioral interventions to improve classroom behavior, the delivery of therapy to children, adolescents, and families, and the investigation of abuse and neglect allegations. Now a fully Licensed Professional Counselor, Kendra provides individual, group, and family therapy to children and adolescents in Burrell Behavioral Health’s Outpatient/School-based Services program.

Dr. Susan Pyle, Psy.D, earned her Doctoral degree from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology after completing a Masters of Education from Louis University. Dr. Pyle is an outpatient psychologist in the Branson and Monett offices.
Jonathan Richards, MS, LPC, CADC
Jonathan Richards earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Boise State University in 2008 and continued his education at Missouri State University where he earned a Master’s of Science in Clinical Psychology. In 2011, Jonathan completed the requirements of the Missouri Substance Abuse Professional Credentialing Board and was then conferred the title of Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. During his employment with Clarity, Recovery and Wellness, Jonathan served as a drug court counselor providing screenings and assessments, individual and group counseling, treatment planning, and facilitating educational groups. Jonathan also has experience in the area of vocational rehabilitation and has provided individual counseling to rehabilitating clients. Jonathan, now a Licensed Professional Counselor, provides behavioral health services and chemical dependency counseling at Burrell Behavioral Health’s Murney Clinic in Springfield where he sees primarily adolescents and adults.

Gary Richardson, LCSW, graduated with his Master of Science in Sociology from Pittsburg State University and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Gary provides outpatient therapy to children and adolescents in northern Springfield at the Cox North Children’s Clinic.
Stephanie Robbins, MS, LPC
Stephanie Robbins earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Evangel University where she continued her education, graduating summa cum laude, receiving the adult education award of excellence, and earning a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology in 2011. Stephanie’s background and experience are demonstrative of her desire to help others—she has worked with families in need of family and/or foster care counseling, has significant experience in the facilitation of group counseling sessions, and has worked extensively with individuals struggling with eating disorders, substance abuse and addiction issues, and other traumatic experiences. Stephanie currently provides behavioral health services at the Burrell North Children’s Clinic where she provides assessments, treatment planning, and therapy for individuals, and also delivers specialized care in through group, play, family or marital therapies.

Kevin Robertson, LPC, earned a Masters from the University of South Alabama and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He has expertise in individual and family therapy for treatment of depression, anxiety, and mood disorders in adults/children, as well as disruptive behavior disorders in children and adolescents.
William Robison, MDiv, PsyD, LMFT, HSPP
William Robison earned a Doctorate in Psychology from the Illinois School of Psychology as well as a Master of Divinity from the Lexington Theological Seminary in Kentucky. In addition to being a licensed psychologist, Dr. Robison is also a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a registered Health Service Provider in Psychology and a Clinically Certified Forensic Counselor. Dr. Robison has had significant training and/or experience in a variety of clinical areas including chemical dependency, the treatment of sexually aggressive children and youth, clinical pastoral education, marriage and family therapy and clinical supervision. Dr. Robison provides outpatient treatment for adolescents and adults of all ages at Burrell’s main center in Springfield.
Angela Ross, LCSW
Angela Ross graduated Summa Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts degree from Evangel University in 1994. She earned a Master of Social Work from Aurora University in 1998. Angela’s background includes extensive experience assisting with crisis intervention, group based counseling sessions, development and implementation of case management, advocacy and counseling support to youth at various levels and their family members. Angela is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing care to all ages and specializes in Play, Group, and Family Therapy.
Billie Rudminat, MS, OTR/L
Billie Rudminat is a licensed Occupational Therapist with the Burrell Autism Center located within the Child and Adolescent Center in Springfield. She received her Masters degree in Occupational Therapy from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. She has practiced as a pediatric therapist for the past 12 years in a variety of settings including clinics, homes, and schools, working with children from birth through graduation. She is also certified as a Level 1 therapist through the American Hippotherapy Association. Billie is excited to bring her knowledge and experience to the Burrell Autism Center to assist all kids in exploring and achieving all that they choose to do.
Sara Rutan, MSW, LCSW
Sara Rutan, LCSW, works as Burrell’s Outstate HIV Mental Health Consultant. She graduated with her Master of Social Work from the University Of Kansas School Of Social Welfare and she specializes in the mental health treatment of persons living with HIV/AIDS.
Sue Ann Rybarczyk, MA, LPC
Sue Ann Rybarczyk earned her Master of Arts in Counseling from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in 2006 and currently works as a Licensed Professional Counselor at Burrell North Clinic. Sue’s background includes working in Russia assisting in the development of special education programs, teaching marriage and family courses and implementing teacher and student curriculum. Additionally, Sue has experience in counseling children, adolescents, families and learning disabled, as well as holding a professional membership through the Association for Play Therapy.
Shelby Schrader, MS, LPC
Shelby Schrader earned her Master of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology at Evangel University with concentrations in counseling theories, intelligence and personality assessment, human growth and development, and psychopathology. Since graduating in 2011, Shelby has acquired her Professional Counselor license and gained experience in the delivery of several behavioral health modalities including the provision of Applied Behavior Analysis to children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, providing therapy in an inpatient setting utilizing crisis management and intervention strategies, motivational interviewing and cognitive behavioral intervention. Additionally, Shelby has assisted many individuals with social integration, gaining access to community resources, and by providing advocacy and support in Mental Health Court. Currently, Shelby provides community support supervision for adults and senior adults through Burrell’s Transitions program in Springfield.
Paul Schulte, MS, LCSW
Paul Schulte, LCSW, is an Outpatient Clinician and has been at Burrell since 1989. Paul earned a Master of Science in Guidance and Counseling from Missouri State University. He specializes in marital and family therapy and practices in the Main Center in Springfield.
Shauna Shah, MD
Dr. Shauna Shah is a medical graduate of Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After her study at Drexel, Dr. Shah completed an internship and residency at Thomas Jefferson University where she gained experience in Adult Psychiatry. Upon completion of her residency, Dr. Shah pursued a fellowship obtaining experiences in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Long Island Jewish North Shore University. Dr. Shah provides care to patients ages 4 to 17, specializing in psychiatric services and medication evaluation.
Devin Shelton, PsyD
Devin Shelton earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Arkansas State University and continued her education at The School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute where she earned both a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and her doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Shelton’s background includes significant experience in the delivery of behavioral health care including individual, pre-marital and marital counseling as well as family therapy. In addition to her experience with the utilization of a broad spectrum of assessment instruments and scales, Dr. Shelton’s qualifications include conducting and reporting psychological evaluations. Dr. Shelton delivers outpatient psychological care to all ages including clinical assessment, treatment planning, psychological evaluations , MRDD services and individual, family, marital and play therapies.
Julie Skodak, MSW, LCSW
A graduate of Aurora University, Julie Skodak of Burrell’s Branson office, has significant experience in delivering mental health services to teens and adolescents. With Spanish as a second language, she has worked in collaboration with many school systems and agencies providing clinical assessments, adaptive behavioral assessments and individual and family therapies to mainstream and special-education students and their families. Julie’s background in counseling also includes work with teen runaways, high-risk pregnant teens and women, and counseling all ages on issues of divorce, grief, drug education, HIV/Aids, peer mediation and conflict resolution.
Joshua Soward, MA, LPC
A 2009 graduate of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology, Joshua Soward comes to Burrell with significant experience in the delivery of behavioral health care. Joshua’s experience includes teaching and facilitating group therapy sessions relating to restorative justice within area detention centers and also the provision of individual counseling to youth offenders. Joshua’s background also includes providing individual, family, group and marital counseling to adults presenting with issues relating to depression, trauma, substance abuse, oppositional defiance and adjustment disorders. Joshua is a member of Burrell’s children’s residential team and also available to provide outpatient, individual counseling, MRDD services, and play, group, family and marital therapies for children, adolescents and adults.
Wesley Starlin, MS, LPC
Wesley Starlin earned a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Psychology, followed by a Masters in Counseling with an emphasis in Community Agency from Missouri State University. In addition to being a Licensed Professional Counselor, Wesley is also a National Certified Counselor, a Qualified Substance Abuse Professional, and a Qualified Mental Health Professional. Since 2008, Wesley has provided behavioral health services; he has worked extensively with the parents of many children and adolescents, assisting them in developing effective modes of discipline, in family reunification, and through his work as a parent aide. As an outpatient clinician, Wesley has worked with adolescents, adults and senior adults providing assessments, developing treatment plans, and utilizing psychosocial rehabilitation programming as a means of assisting clients with societal re-entry. In addition to his clinical background, Wesley has served as a program administrator, manager of electronic health records, telemedicine network manager, intern supervisor and more. Currently, Wesley provides behavioral health care for adolescents in one of Burrell’s residential care facilities where he specializes in the delivery of group and family therapies.
Richard Stephenson, ACSW, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Rick Stephenson, is a 1981 graduate of the University of Georgia. He is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and holds the ACSW Certification. With over 40 years experience in the field of mental health, he delivers outpatient psychotherapy to adolescents, adults and senior adults, as well as couples and families. He is also a specialist in trauma treatment and is trained in the use of EMDR therapy. Rick is part of the clinical team at Burrell Behavioral Health’s Main Center in Springfield.
Brent Sugg, MS, LPC
With a Master of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling from Missouri State University, Brent Sugg, LPC is currently the coordinator for Burrell’s “Transitions-n-Training” program. Brent’s background in guidance and counseling, combined with his history of employment in a variety of residential settings, enhances his ability to deliver care to clients utilizing comprehensive Transitions services for the long-term mentally ill, helping them to realize their full potential. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Brent is qualified to deliver general clinical services including individual therapy, clinical assessment, psychosocial history, treatment and discharge planning for adults and senior adults.
Larisa Sychova, FNP
Before earning a Master of Science in Nursing at Missouri State University in 2013, Larisa Sychova had already earned Master’s degrees in both English as a Second Language and Education. Larisa earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Jacksonville State University in Alabama where she graduated with honors. As a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner, Larisa has experience in outpatient care providing diagnosis and management of acute conditions including URI, UTI, acute bronchitis, conjunctivitis, allergies, sinusitis, ear infections, diagnostic screenings, and much more. Through her outpatient practice, Larisa is able to focus on health promotion, client education, and health maintenance. Larisa’s background also includes the diagnosis and management of complicated chronic conditions and diseases including chronic heart failure, COPD, GERD, hyper- and hypothyroidism, obesity osteoporosis, chronic pain, anxiety, depression and many others. Currently, Larisa is a member of Burrell Behavioral Health’s Health Care Home program where she provides advanced nursing care to program participants, helping to ensure that behavioral health and physical health needs are simultaneously addressed for this population.
Candace Tate, PsyD
Dr. Candace Tate is a graduate of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology and a licensed Psychologist. Dr. Tate completed both a clinical psychology internship and post-doctoral residency at the Otis R. Bowen Behavioral Health Center in Warsaw, Indiana, where she also spent several years practicing clinical psychology, crisis intervention, working as a behavioral health plan facilitator, conducting psychological testing, and supervising rehabilitation service providers. Dr. Tate now practices outpatient clinical psychology at Burrell’s Main Center in Springfield, Missouri, where she sees adolescents, adults and senior adults. In addition to the provision of individual therapy, clinical assessments and psychological evaluations, Dr. Tate specializes in delivering behavioral health care to those diagnosed with MRDD and also in the delivery of psychotherapy through group, family, and marital therapies.
Charles Thomas, MD
Dr. Charles Thomas earned a medical degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City in 1986 prior to completion of his psychiatric residency in 1990 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. Since then, Dr. Thomas has provided psychiatric care including, but not limited to, treatment planning, individual therapy, medical psychotherapy, and medication management and administration to both adults and senior adults. Currently, he practices Adult Psychiatry at Burrell’s Main Center in Springfield.
Fred Ulam, PhD
Fred Ulam, a graduate of the California School of Professional Psychology is a licensed psychologist. Dr. Ulam has been named a Diplomate of the QEEG (Quantitative Electroencephalograph) Certification Board and has also received specialty certification in neurofeedback by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance. Dr. Ulam has conducted significant research relating to QEEG, head and brain injuries, stroke, and other neuropsychological conditions and has many time been invited to share his work with the National Academy of Neuropsychology. Dr. Ulam’s background in neuropsychology includes extensive experience in both clinical and rehabilitative neuropsychology and he has helped many individuals who have suffered traumatic brain injuries, cerebrovascular accidents, metabolic and/or infectious encephalopathies, post-craniotomies and other neurological conditions. Additionally, he has developed behavior management plans for individuals with behavior disturbances related to neurological impairment and has counseled many individuals and families affected with a variety of serious medical conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, and other neurological afflictions. Dr. Ulam is part of Burrell Behavioral Health’s outpatient psychological team, specializing in forensic and neuropsychological evaluations and group, family and marital therapies.
Amy Vaughan, OT
Amy Vaughan graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1998 and in the same year received certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. In 1999, Amy became licensed by the State of Missouri to practice occupational therapy and in 2003 she received certification from Sensory Integration International after successful completion of her Sensory Integration and Praxis exam and requirements. Amy has an extensive background in the administration of occupational therapy, especially in pediatric and educational environments, and also in the instruction of occupational therapy applications at both the collegiate and professional levels. Currently, Amy practices at Burrell Behavioral Health’s Children’s Center where she provides occupational therapy assessments, consultation, evaluation, and direct treatment for both children and adolescents.
Paula Warner, MSN, RN, NP-C
Paula Warner earned a Masters of Science in Nursing with a specialization in education from Walden University, followed by a Post Masters certificate from Cox College for the Family Nurse Practitioner program in 2014. As a past educator, Paula has held professional education positions such as course coordinator, clinical instructor and certified nurse assistant instructor. Additionally, Paula has experience with terminally ill patients, adult psychiatrics, examinations, medical technology, IV therapy, and CPR. Paula is presently a member of Burrell’s outpatient psychiatric team and provides care to children, adolescents, and adults.
Tana Leigh Warren, MS, LPC
Tana Leigh Warren, LPC, is an Individual and Family Counselor at Bramblewood Children’s Residential Facility. She earned a Master of Science from Missouri State University and is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified Teacher, a Certified School Counselor, and a Certified Mediator. Her areas of expertise are individual and family therapy.
Matthew Weatherly, MA, LPC
Matthew Weatherly earned his Master’s degree in clinical psychology from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL and now works as a Licensed Professional Counselor in Burrell Behavioral Health’s Children’s Center. In addition to providing individual, outpatient counseling for children and adolescents, Matthew also specializes in family therapy and also play therapy through which he is able to assist young children in coping with trauma. Matthew has over ten years of experience working with troubled youth and their families and also in the use of de-escalation techniques for crisis situations, facilitating psycho-educational groups geared toward anger management and self-esteem, and the implementation of various play therapy approaches including Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and use of the sand tray in treatment.

Margaret Werner, LPC, earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Evangel University in 2005, and went on to receive her Master’s Degree from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in 2007. Margaret is a Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor who provides Psychotherapy to all ages, and specializes in Child and Adolescent Therapy. Michelle Beisner Whitmire, PsyD
Michelle Beisner Whitmire is a 2005 graduate of the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology where she earned a Master’s Degree in Psychology and also a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Whitmire completed a pre-doctoral internship with the Carol Jones Recovery Center for Women/Alternative Opportunities in Springfield, MO and a post-doctoral residency with Ozark Center in Joplin. Dr. Whitmire’s background includes the delivery of individual therapy to adult, outpatient clients; she has earned certification by the American Academy of Pain Management and has historically maintained a caseload comprised primarily of patients suffering from chronic physical illness, impaired physical functioning and/or chronic pain. Through her training and practice, Dr. Whitmire has successfully helped many individuals improve their quality of life by teaching effective symptom management and also through medication compliance counseling. Additionally, Dr. Whitmire has practiced within Health Care Home programming, is a Certified Health Service Provider, and has earned a Certificate of Completion in Integrated Health Care: Practice Consultation and Management.
Carolyn Williams, MS, LPC
Carolyn Williams, MS, LPC graduated with honors from Southwest Missouri State University with her Master of Science Degree in Guidance and Counseling. She is employed with Burrell Behavioral Health as a part-time, outpatient counselor and has significant experience in delivering therapeutic treatment to adolescents, adults and senior adults. In addition to providing individual, group, family, and marital therapies, Carolyn has expertise in treating individuals with chemical dependency and those presenting with co-occurring disorders. Carolyn is also part of the treatment team at Cox Health Systems Center for Addictions.
Lacey York, MS, LPC
Lacey York is a Licensed Professional Counselor who graduated from Missouri State University with a Master’s of Science in Counseling in 2009. Lacey’s background includes experience in several facets of behavioral health care including the delivery of counseling for individuals and couples, facilitation of therapeutic anger management groups, conducting client intakes, maintaining client records and making referrals. As a Community Support Worker, Lacey provided support to individuals diagnosed with mental illness by assisting with doctor appointments, medication and treatment compliance, and education regarding their diagnoses. Lacey also has experience as a Community Support Supervisor, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor, and providing outpatient counseling to both children and adults.

Woody Younts, LPC, graduated from Liberty University with a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. He is the Assistant Director of Burrell’s Child and Adolescent CPRC Services and is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor.
