Burrell works collaboratively with some area schools to provide a system of referral, treatment and follow up to mental health services for students who demonstrate risk of academic, behavioral and/or mental health difficulties as evidenced by poor school performance, discipline problems, law enforcement involvement, substance abuse, and/or family mobility or distress.

Knowing that violence and substance abuse among students often compromises the educational climate and endangers teachers and students, these schools have directed their efforts toward promoting healthy and safe schools. They understand that children must feel safe and be safe to achieve in school and to become competent, resilient adults – and have therefore developed programs where mental health counselors are readily available in their school system as a strategic intervention toward achieving their safety and health goals.

Ask your schools counseling office if they are linked with Burrell services.
