It is easy to feel overwhelmed by the amount of work parenting takes and the pressure we feel trying to do the right thing for our children. Add in the stress of a child who is struggling with emotional or behavioral issues and parents can feel a tremendous fatigue — leaving them with even less energy to try to help manage their child’s behavior. The whole thing can become a cycle of stress.
Most of us can handle one crisis at a time. But, life doesn’t always dole out challenges one at a time. In fact, whether real or imagined, there are old adages about trouble arriving in groups of three. Whether you have one struggle, or three challenges, or five concerns, and no matter how great the problem, there is a solution.
Individuals with chronic mental illness face enormous challenges. Not only do they have to cope with their illness, but they and their families often struggle to arrange services from complex or unreceptive systems. Whether the most immediate need is for housing, medical care or psychiatric medication, those with chronic mental illness are often overwhelmed by the “rules” attendant to receiving quality care and services.
The Burrell Research and Quality Assurance Department is comprised of doctoral, masters, and bachelor’s level researchers who develop and apply behavioral science research to the issues facing community behavioral health care organizations, as well as other types of organizations. We provide behavioral sciences research services to internal Burrell customers, and to communities, nonprofit agencies, and other community behavioral health agencies, including services such as organizational research, outcomes studies, program evaluations, patient/customer satisfaction surveys, employee satisfaction surveys, grant writing and review, and the creation and maintenance of continuous quality improvement processes.
