Education and Therapy Groups
Many people have in common the basic difficulty of establishing and maintaining close, healthy, and
gratifying relationships with others. Group education and therapy serves as a social environment in
which honest interpersonal exploration can be done in a safe and supportive environment, and honest
feedback can be received from other group members. When you can understand and work out your relationships
with other members of the group, there is enormous carryover to your relationships in the outside world.
Current Education and Therapy Groups include:
Anger Management
|
One out of five Americans has an anger management problem. Anger is a natural human emotion and is
nature's way of empowering us to "ward off" our perception of an attack or threat to our well being.
The problem is not anger itself, but mismanagement of this powerful emotion. Mismanaged anger and rage
is the major cause of conflict in our personal and professional relationships.
|
Domestic abuse, road rage, workplace violence, divorce and addiction are just a few examples of what happens
when anger is mismanaged. More importantly, anger can get in the way of our personal happiness and success
when we struggle to express it properly.
Burrell offers a six week course in anger management that can help you identify mismanaged anger, clearly understand your
personal warning signs and provide you with the tools needed to appropriately cope with your frustrations. Classes are
held once per week from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. For a current evening schedule, call the number below. Six week course
tuition is $120.00 ($20.00 per class) and includes all materials. Participants paying full tuition in advance receive a 20% discount.

Anxiety Management
|
Anxiety is a normal part of life. It can even be useful, for example when we are alerted to
danger or when apprehension affords an opportunity to avoid a difficult situation.
But for some people, anxiety is a persistent problem that interferes with daily
activities such as work, school or sleep. This type of anxiety can disrupt
relationships and enjoyment of life, and over time it can lead to health concerns and
other problems.
|
|
If you are experiencing chronic anxiety, exaggerated worry and tension, even when there is little
or nothing to provoke it, it is important that you consider making some lifestyle changes.
Left unattended, chronic anxiety can cause fatigue, headaches, muscle tension, difficulty swallowing,
trembling, twitching, irritability, sweating and even hot flashes. With the right help and support,
you can and will feel better.
Burrell offers an anxiety management class that can help you gain control over your anxiety. Meeting
in a group setting allows you the opportunity to learn from the experiences of others and to gain
additional support from individuals who are experiencing many of the same things you do. Classes
focus on practical strategies and everyday techniques that you can immediately use to begin feeling better.
Sessions are held weekly on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the first session to begin on
January 16, 2012. A nominal fee of $25 covers your enrollment cost for the entire series.

Children First (Divorcing Parents Program)
Children First provides divorcing parents the opportunity to learn about the effects divorce and
changing family situations have on children. Parents are introduced to methods of minimizing the
negative consequences of divorce on their children. Particular focus is on making parents aware of the
various ways their children may express their reactions to the changing family structure.
At the time parents approach a legal divorce, most are emotionally upset and primarily focused on the
changes in their lives. Even though they care greatly for their children, many parents find it very
difficult at this time to recognize and respond to the needs of their children. Because of this,
classes are most helpful for parents at the beginning
|
|
stages of the divorce. The class emphasizes the best interest of the children both during and after the divorce; helping parents anticipate
and plan for problem situations and prepare for future events involving their children.
Children First is not therapy - participants are not asked or encouraged to disclose personal information.
Burrell now offers the Children First class in three locations. This court mandated program costs $40 per participant.

Grief Support
|
Grief is the natural reaction to loss. It is a process with psychological, behavioral, social
and physical aspects – and it is different for every individual. No one can tell you how you
should grieve, how long you should grieve or even when you should grieve. There are no "right"
answers when it comes to mourning.
|
Comfort comes in many forms during these difficult times. The kindness of a friend, the company of
loved ones and the ability to smile on occasion despite the sadness. There is also reassurance in
learning what to expect -- the progressive stages of grief and loss as well as understanding where you
are on that journey. There is consolation in talking about your experiences with others who truly
understand what you are going through, as they have also endured a significant loss.
Burrell offers a six week educational group for grief support and coping with the most painful
loss- not simply losing the person you loved, but in also in losing part of the person you were.
