Our Services

Developmental Disabilities

We provide support for developmentally disabled clients in their home and in the community for southwest and central Missouri. Our services include practical help for functional living, behavioral support and crisis intervention. We also offer employment resources through our working solutions program in southwest Missouri.

Developmental Services

Personal Assistance:

We assist individuals in performing daily living tasks such as hygiene, shopping, preparing/planning meals, eating, laundry, and practicing social skills in the community to avoid isolation. Personal Care services focus more on doing for the person instead of teaching. This may be provided on a 1:1 basis or in a group.

Personal Assistance Medical:

This is different from Personal Care in that it focuses on individuals with exceptional medical needs. Additional training is required specific to the person’s medical or behavioral needs. It is provided on a 1:1 basis.

Community Integration:

This service is provided in the community. It focuses on teaching the individual a variety of things in the community, including how to develop and use social skills, how to comparison shopping, how to access community resources, and how to become a fully participating member of the community. This service is provided on a 1:1.

In Home Living Skills:

We work with individual’s at home and in the community. We focus on teaching a variety of daily living skills such as how to do laundry, how to cook, how to do meal planning, how to manage a home. This is provided on a 1:1 basis.

Community Specialist:

This service is for those who need specialized support in achieving outcomes in their Individualized Support Plan. It may include advocating, plan development, locating and accessing services within the person’s field of expertise, or any other specialized duty. It is provided on a 1:1 basis.

Individualized Supported Living:

This is a residential service provided in the community. A person may live alone or with the person(s) of his/her choosing. The number of individuals in one home is limited to four. Individuals receive supports in all areas of life, with the emphasis on community participation and inclusion. The individual may have some alone time without staff, or may have staff up to 24.

Person Centered Strategies Consultant:

This service involves consultation to the individuals support team to improve the quality of live for the individual through the development and implementation of positive, proactive and preventative person-centered strategies and a modified environment and/or life style for the individual. This is provided on a 1:1 basis and is meant to be the first proactive step in helping a person avoid a crisis situation involving his/her behavioral challenges.

Team-Based Approach

Our team of specialists know the larger Burrell network and connect clients with expanded resources to meet their behavioral health needs. Whether that is medication management, substance use disorder treatment or general therapy services - Burrell's team-based approach can meet client needs from many angles.

Crisis Intervention:

This service is provided as part of a crisis intervention/behavior resource team, intended to provide immediate therapeutic intervention on a 24 hour basis. The goal is to address personal, social, and/or behavioral issues which otherwise are likely to threaten the health and safety of the individual or of others, and/or to result in the individual’s removal from his/her current living situation. The Person Centered Strategies Consultant would be a part of this team, which would be supervised by a Psychologist, Counselor, Social Worker or Behavior Analyst licensed by the State of Missouri. Services may be provided in a variety of settings.

Functional Behavior Analysis:

This is performed by a licensed Behavior Analyst. This process identifies functional relationships between behavior and the environment, including things that may contribute to the person’s behaviors (both positive and negative). A report of the findings is included.

Senior Behavioral Consultant:

This service is provided by a licensed Behavior Analyst. It includes incorporating findings from the Functional Behavior Analysis into a Behavior Support Plan. The Behavior Analyst trains the support team on the recommendations of the Behavior Support Plan, monitors data collected, assesses the efficacy of the plan, and makes any needed modifications to the plan and/or outcomes.

Working Solutions:

We provide employment solutions for those with disabilities. A range of options are available to support disabled individuals looking for employment. Funding is provided by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
