SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (November 10, 2022)—At a check presentation today, Bass Pro Shops presented Burrell Foundation with a $7,500 community grant to fund its newly expanded nature therapy program in partnership with 37 North Expeditions.

The nature therapy program, which kicked off this past May with a youth trip to Ha Ha Tonka State Park, includes outdoor excursions led by 37 North Expeditions master guides and staffed by Burrell Behavioral Health team members.

“37 North Expeditions brings the nature experts, and we bring our Burrell support teams to accommodate our clients and challenge them to think about how these experiences have affected them emotionally or how it would have been different if they were under the influence,” Burrell Foundation Executive Director Gabrielle Martin said. “We are showing clients in the 18 counties we support in Missouri that there are free outdoor recreational areas that they can go to on their own for that same support.

Through the recently awarded grant from Bass Pro Shops, Burrell has expanded the nature therapy program to include 15 excursions over the next year, including quarterly trips beyond the Ozarks for clients who are looking to broaden their outdoor experience.

“At Bass Pro Shops, we believe in the restorative powers of the great outdoors, and we are pleased to support this program that recognizes nature as therapy,” Sarah Hough, Bass Pro Shops Sr. Manager of Community Affairs & Diversity Inclusion, said. “This nature therapy program in partnership with 37 North will raise awareness of our local outdoor recreation areas and impact participants’ mental health.”

“We are excited to continue our partnership with 37 North and grateful to Bass Pro Shops to fund this expanded relationship,” Martin said.
