THERAPY & COUNSELING

Individual Therapy for Children

We work with children as young as three all the way through adolescent years and can provide individual or family therapy support.

Individual Therapy for Children Overview

Growing up is a difficult process, and in today’s world children are faced with many challenges that most parents did not have experience with in their own childhood. Whether it is the impact of social media, school safety concerns or something else entirely our professional staff is here to help. Sometimes talking to an expert, who can remain objective and provide sound advice and guidance, can be a great launching pad toward progress. We are trained and licensed to assist with a variety of issues facing today's youth.

AGE-APPROPRIATE TREATMENTS

Play therapy is used to help children ages 3 to 12 explore their lives and freely express repressed thoughts and emotions through play. Therapeutic play normally takes place in a safe, comfortable playroom, where very few rules or limits are imposed on the child, encouraging free expression and allowing the therapist to observe the child’s choices, decisions, and play style. The goal is to help children learn to express themselves in healthier ways, become more respectful and empathetic, and discover new and more positive ways to solve problems.

PARENTING SKILLS

Parent Management Training (PMT) programs train parents to manage their child's behavioral problems in the home and at school. In PMT, parent-child interactions are modified in ways that are designed to promote prosocial child behavior and to decrease antisocial or oppositional behavior. Treatment sessions include instruction in social learning principles and techniques.

It works – it’s not time out, it’s not yelling, it’s not feeling like you are at the end of your rope. But it does take training, and we can help.

School-Based Services

Sometimes the biggest barrier to getting help for your child is time. It can be a real challenge to get your kids to therapy appointments with all the demands of school, work and family. Burrell's School-Based Services were created as an innovative approach to providing rapid access to care in the school setting. We work directly with students, families and educators onsite in a few different ways. Give us a call or check with your school district to see if this service is available.
