April is Autism Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and understanding about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that approximately 1 in 36 children in the United States has been identified with ASD.

The Burrell Autism Center is a regional leader in the care and treatment of Autism. Established in 2008 with the mantra "where great kids grow and all kids are great," the Autism Center is committed to the highest quality care for our children, who need it most.

This January the Autism Center celebrated 15 years of providing the latest and most effective diagnostic and treatment interventions for individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. “We aim to provide a comprehensive range of services that will meet the unique goals of everyone who walks through our doors,” said Dr. Seth Allen, Autism Center Director.

Our multidisciplinary evaluation and approach are suited for families who suspect their child (ages 1-8) may have ASD. This evaluation may include a psychological assessment, an occupational therapy assessment, a speech and language assessment, and a consultation with a developmental pediatrician, depending on needs.

This year we are on pace to have more than 12,500 total visits, the vast majority of which are direct services to individuals with an ASD diagnosis, and include more than 200 diagnostic evaluations.

By raising awareness about the challenges that people with autism face, we can help to create a more understanding and supportive community.
